What’s Cazador del Oso?
A Jamaican Buffalo Soldier sent to Essex, MT to fight the “Big Burn” of 1910, becomes entangled with a local opium cartel and infamous whiskey bootlegger, “Anna” Josephine Doody; leading to his desertion into the Great Bear Wilderness and a serendipitous encounter with rural mail carrier, Mary Fields, who smuggles him to Bynum, MT where he is eventually caught by the cartel and their leader, “Oso,” resulting in a bloody gunfight.
Cazador del Oso weaves art, music, and forgotten Montana history into a magnum opus, blurring the line between hunter and hunted, id and ego, real and imagined.
Montana Given New Life
Montana’s history is full of forgotten villains and heroes:
The 25th Infantry “Buffalo Soldiers” who fought fires, saving entire towns
Mary Fields, Montana’s first black, female postal carrier
Dan and Josephine Doody, infamous GNP whisky bootleggers
The Chinese railroad workers who built the Great Northern Railway
The Blackfeet Nation, whom we honor and recognize as Montana’s first inhabitants.
Cazador del Oso honors these people and events by using them as a foundation to explore something deeper: trauma, identity, survival, and what happens when a man confronts himself in the wilderness.

About the Creator
Zac Fawcett is a multi-instrumentalist, artist, and film-writer from Kalispell, MT. After graduating from the Lionel Hampton School of Music at the University of Idaho, Zac spent the next 20 years performing, touring, and recording with scores of bands and artists from around the world.
He performs full-time with local favorites: 20 Grand and Roots Uprising; and works with Alpine Theater Project, Amazing Place Music, Second Story Band, Glacier Symphony, Brent Jameson, Luke Dowler, and others.
